Hi everyone!

I am Harpreet, a 2nd year psychology student and I work as an international sustainability frontrunner.

After being introduced to sustainability in my first module in 1st year through lectures and having to complete an essay on sustainability. My interests and passion for sustainability has significantly grown. Particularly the lecture on how fashion enforces unsustainable practices is what really struck me. From there I started to do my own research about sustainability through documentaries, articles and talking to international students about their experiences.

Learning about sustainability has thoroughly interested me and it pains me what we have done to this world and how much of man-made actions have hurt living life and people. One of my own closest friends who is from Pakistan has a direct experience of the 2010 Pakistan floods, these floods were amplified by man-made activities of deforestation and environmental neglect. Currently, throughout Punjab (my place of heritage) we are also seeing intense flooding which has impacted so many lives this too has been influenced by climate change and human practices.

After, learning a great deal of the struggles people face in undeveloped countries and how climate change and global warming makes people’s life’s that are already tough, a lot more tough, has changed me. This has now had a profound impact on me, on the way I think, my goals in life. I am now so encouraged and feel a deep sense to help those people.

I think the most significant impact of reducing greenhouse emissions and slowing down the rate of climate change and global warming is through the government, policy makers, and laws. However, if they are not taking action, we should push them to take action and take as much action as we can ourselves.

So far I have learnt a lot through this job and I look forward to learning lots more about sustainability and teaching others too about it. I aim to live a more sustainable life and to encourage others to do the same. I wish to take everything I will learn from this amazing opportunity to implement it into my life, thinking and everyday occurrences.

Let’s all work together to make this dream come to light. And most importantly make the world a better place for all of us and for our future generations.

Thank you for reading!
