Climate-Ready Action Guide
The new version of the Climate Ready Action Guide for students was released in October 2026. Written by the Universities Partnership for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, this guide, adapted from the residents guide for climate action from Leicester City Council, aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make sustainable choices at home, during their studies, and for the community. The guide can be accessed here.
This guide provides an easy-to-read overview of the actions that students can take to live more sustainable lifestyles, and participate in sustainability activities while at their institutions. The guide covers:
- Home heating and home energy usage, and actions that can be taken by students as well as homeowners
- How to make more sustainable choices as consumers, including carbon calculators, buying locally-produced food, reuse, repair and upcycling
- Sustainable food choices, with links to resources from Love Food Hate Waste for reducing food waste, and tips for choosing more sustainable food products
- Waste and recycling, including tips on avoiding waste, reusable drinking cups (to save money as well as packaging waste) and local authority recycling guides
- Water sustainability, including tips on reducing household consumption
- Travel and active travel, including information on cycling support and making more sustainable travel choices
