An offer of support from DMU to Community Organisations in Leicester to identify actions to respond to the climate emergency…

Part of a Leicester community organisation? Free support available to develop your climate emergency action plan

Leicester City Council is committed to working towards Leicester being a carbon neutral city and through its Climate Emergency strategy, aims to work with organisations across the city so they can all play a part in making this happen.

De Montfort University is working with the Council to develop a new toolkit for community organisations to help their staff, members and volunteers understand how they can play their part and to get involved.

To help develop the toolkit, we are looking to work with people from 10 organisations in the city to offer tailored advice and support, so that participating organisations can understand their current carbon footprint and to develop ideas towards a carbon neutral action plan.

Participants will also be invited to help shape the toolkit for use by other organisations across the city which will be a standalone resource offering ideas and a framework for making a climate action plan.

What we are looking for:

  • Voluntary sector organisations based in Leicester (e.g. community centres, charities, co-operatives, sports clubs, religious centres), that:
    • Own, lease or manage a building in the city
    • Can commit to an initial meeting and sharing relevant data with the project team to help develop ideas towards your Action Plan
    • Can commit to sending a member to an online focus group to share their experience and to help improve the action plan toolkit

This pilot project will run from June to August 2021. We do not expect you to consult with and agree a climate action plan with other members/colleagues in this short time period – rather, we can assist one more key contacts from each organisation to do some initial work, which could lay the groundwork for agreeing a climate action plan after the project.

To express interest in getting involved, please fill out the online form here: https://de-montfort.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/leicester-climate-action-plan-toolkit .

Please complete the form by Sunday 6th June 2021 to potentially join the 1st cohort of participating organisations. Later submissions are welcome also for further cohorts.
